My Pocket PC (PPC) Adventures: XDA Orbit

Year 2007: O2 XDA Orbit

In 2007, after my MDA 3 touchscreen broke for a second time, I bought an O2 XDA Orbit [specs], originally named HTC Artemis and coming with WM 5.0. Being slower than the MDA 3, it has longer battery time in return, and most of all, an internal GPS unit which I had longed for. It is also very lightweight in comparison.

Currently, I would buy an HTC Trinity [specs] instead, because it has 400 Mhz and all features of the XDA Orbit. It is about 1mm thicker, though, and does not have the extremely cool scroll wheel.

O2 XDA Orbit Evaluation
XDA Orbit Pro:
  • Robust and light weight
  • WLAN
  • Bluetooth
  • GPS
  • 2 MP Camera
Contra:
  • Slow (200 Mhz) CPU
Bugs:
  • Alarm clock ringing unstoppable
  • Both timezone clocks must be the same
  • Loses storage card contents (fixed)

Despite the nasty bugs, I like the XDA Orbit more than any PPC phone before; for the first time, the functionality to size ratio seems to be just right.
